Dear Parents,
The month of February is Nutritional month, we will learn about the new food pyramid and all of the food groups. My plan for the month is that each week we would focus on a different food group. The first week we are going to focus on the grain/bread food group. We will be reading stories about the origin of bread. We will also be working on grams and how to measure using a scale, we will use grains for rice to measure with. The second week of February is going to be focused on fruit. We will discuss the variety of fruit and what makes fruit a fruit rather than a vegetable. Third week we will talk about all the varieties of vegetables: the strange and the familiar kinds. I will be passing out a permission slip for all of you to sign to allow your child to taste different kinds of vegetables (look for the permission slip about the 5th of February). The fourth week we will focus on the meat and dairy group. We will learn about where the different meat and dairy products come from and which animal it comes from.
Just for a heads up, March will be sports month. We will learn about all the different types of sports and how to play them.

Wow! That sounds very interesting and it makes me wish I was in your classroom. I can't wait to read next months newsletter about the different sports you will be doing. Have fun.
ReplyDeleteit looks like you will be busy! But it is very interesting! I really like all of the ideas that you have and what you have in store for the year!
ReplyDeleteYou have a very clever way of integrating math and measurement skills into your lesson on food groups. Clearly, food intake quantities is a critical part of this topic, and introducing measurement skills was a good supplement.
